Your birth didn't go the way you planned. And you're still carrying it.
Therapy for birth trauma because what happened to you matters, even if everyone says "at least the baby is healthy."
Maybe it was an emergency C-section that happened so fast you couldn't process it. Maybe your pain wasn't taken seriously. Maybe you felt unheard, unseen, or out of control during the most vulnerable moment of your life. Maybe everything went "fine" medically, but it didn't feel fine to you and no one seems to understand why you're still affected by it.
Birth trauma is real, and it doesn't require a medical emergency to count. What makes an experience traumatic is how it felt to you — not how it looked on paper.
Signs you may be dealing with birth trauma
Replaying your birth experience over and over
Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive images of the delivery
Avoiding conversations about birth, hospitals, or your birth story
Anxiety about future pregnancies
Anger at your medical team, your partner, or yourself
Feeling disconnected from your baby or your body
Many moms with postpartum anxiety appear completely fine on the outside. They're high-functioning, organized, holding it all together. But internally, they're exhausted from the constant vigilance. If this is you, please know: looking "fine" doesn't mean you don't need support.
How I can help
I provide trauma-informed therapy that gives you space to process your birth experience fully — the fear, the grief, the anger, and the loss of the experience you hoped for. Using trauma-focused CBT, psychodynamic processing, and body-based techniques drawn from my yoga training, we work to help you integrate what happened so it stops controlling how you feel today.
At The Motherhood Center of New York, I worked with women processing a range of birth experiences — from NICU stays to unplanned surgeries to births that were simply nothing like what they'd imagined. I understand that your experience is valid regardless of the outcome.
You deserve to heal, not just move on.
I see clients virtually throughout New Jersey — including Summit, Westfield, and Montclair — and across 39+ states via PSYPACT.
